Learning Environment

A Learning Environment of Faith, Presence, and Purpose

Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac envisioned the learning environment as a living community of formation—an insight that is clearly articulated and expanded in the Educational Model of the Company of Mary.

Within this model, the learning environment reflects a holistic and faith-centered vision grounded in key principles that align with her original spirit:

A climate of presence and relationship

The Educational Model emphasizes personal accompaniment, where educators intentionally know, guide, and walk with each student. This reflects Saint Jeanne’s belief that students learn best in environments marked by trust, care, and authentic relationships.

An environment of integral formation

Consistent with the model’s focus on educating the whole person, the learning environment nurtures intellectual growth alongside spiritual, moral, emotional, and social development. Formation is not limited to content, but oriented toward purpose, identity, and vocation.

An Ignatian rhythm of learning and reflection

The model incorporates an ongoing cycle of awareness, discernment, action, and reflection. This creates a dynamic environment where students are invited to recognize God’s presence in all things and grow through thoughtful engagement with their experiences.

Responsive and inclusive practices

In alignment with Saint Jeanne’s attentiveness to the individual, the Educational Model promotes meeting students where they are—adapting instruction and support to honor each learner’s needs and dignity.

Together, Saint Jeanne’s vision and the Educational Model of the Company of Mary present the learning environment as intentional, relational, reflective, and mission-driven. It is a place where students are formed not only to succeed academically, but to live with faith, purpose, and a commitment to serve others.
