Reflection

"Give us this day our daily bread" - Matthew 6:11

God, thank You for caring about my needs and for promising to be my provider. I'm grateful that You are my loving Father and You care about my well-being. Please sustain me and my loved ones, guide my decision making and provide me with ideas and dreams that will glorify You. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Working Together - Healthy Environment

As the colder days and months approach we are aware of the surges that can occur in viral contagents ranging from the common cold, to Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), influenza, and of course Covid. We will need to continue to work together to help mitigate the spread and help to ensure all of our SJDL families, students, Sisters, teachers and staff remain healthy.

Medical professionals have indicated that we may be more susceptible to these viral contagents now more than ever due to our responses to the pandemic and protocols that were in place over the last few years. Many children and adults can have weaker immune systems which can pose higher risk factors of contracting various illnesses.

Please be sure to follow these guidelines:

  • DO NOT send your child to school if they are showing ANY symptoms associated with the common cold, such as, persistent cough, congestion, etc., and/or a fever.
  • Remind your child(ren) to wash their hands on a regular basis.
  • Please be sure that your child has adequate clothing that is appropriate for the various weather patterns we encounter, especially very cold mornings and rainy days.
  • Thank you for always taking inventory at dismissal of jackets, sweaters, sweatshirts, umbrellas, etc., that your child(ren) brings to school. Inclement weather always leads to more clothing items left at school and/or lost, costing parents a great deal of money. (Reminder: Please label ALL clothing!)

We understand how hard it is to keep children home from school when they have mild symptoms, however, a mild symptom for one child may be detrimental to another. Therefore, we need to all remain diligent and work together in order to provide a healthy sustainable environment for the school over the coming months.

Thank you for your help and understanding regarding this information and request. Please feel free to reach out to the Administration or our front office if you have any questions.

In the Company of Mary,

Sister Cecilia Durán, O.D.N.
Allison Spillman, Vice Principal

Measuring Student Growth

Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac School actively participates and employs protocols intended to identify and address student growth throughout the school year and beyond. One of the components the school uses to determine growth and instructional direction is the STAR Benchmark Assessments. These assessments focus on measuring reading and math competencies aligned to the school's adopted Learning Goals and Learning Progressions.

When viewing the Benchmark scores posted in the Learning Management System (Otus), there are delineation lines that are reflective of California's CAASPP Levels. These 1-4 Levels are not associated with the school's Proficiency Scales, but rather, reflect the range associated with respective levels of proficiency based on state benchmark Scaled Scores.

Students in grades K-8 will once again participate in Benchmark Assessments during the coming week of November 7 - 11. Parents can help by talking with their child(ren) regarding their effort and motivation to do their best, so that we can effectively measure their growth and ability. We will be able to share this information in our LMS, along with classroom observations, Formative Assessments and Summative Assessments students have been given during the First Trimester which will end on Friday, November 18.

Thank you, again, for talking with your child and helping them understand the importance of our benchmark assessment and encouraging them to do their best.
