Student Government

Student Council

The purpose of this organization is to promote Christian ideals under the auspices of Catholic education, to promote leadership, good citizenship, encourage a high standard of scholarship, promote/foster school spirit, demonstrate the practical application of democracy, civil discourse and to advance the welfare of the school and its members in every possible manner.

Student Council Offices

COMMISSIONER GENERAL / PRESIDENT
DUTIES: He/she shall:

  1. serve as the official representative of the students of Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac School,
  2. act as an ex-officio member of all student organizations, clubs, and committees,
  3. be the presiding officer of the Board of Commissioners,
  4. have the general responsibility of all activities pertaining to the students, and
  5. exercise the power, with the approval of the Student Council Moderators, to appoint representatives and committees as he/she deems necessary.

VICE-COMMISSIONER GENERAL / VICE PRESIDENT
DUTIES: He/she shall:

  1. serve as the official representative of the students of Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac School,

BOY & GIRL COMMISSIONER OF “A” TEAM ATHLETICS
DUTIES: He/she shall:

  1. assist the Athletic Director and/or Student Council Moderators in the organization of intramural athletic activities,
  2. be in charge of welcoming all visiting teams and game officials,
  3. give schedules and all important information related to athletic events to the Commissioner of Public Relations for the purpose of publicity,
  4. keep accurate records of the general results of all games for the various teams, and
  5. report periodically to the students regarding the scores of all athletic events in a way that promotes the pride and spirit of the school.

BOY & GIRLS COMMISSIONER OF “B” TEAM ATHLETICS
DUTIES: He/she shall:

  1. assist the Athletic Director and/or Student Council Moderators in the organization of intramural athletic activities,

COMMISSIONER OF ECOLOGY
DUTIES: He/she shall:

  1. be in charge of developing and implementing programs that promote an awareness and appreciation for active participation in local, national, and global ecological issues, and
  2. be directly in charge of the Clean Campus Program.

COMMISSIONER OF ELECTIONS
DUTIES: He/she shall:

  1. serve as the chairperson of the Election Committee, and
  2. assist the moderators in organizing and supervising all aspects of the election process.

COMMISSIONER OF FINANCE
DUTIES: He/she shall:

  1. supervise the collection and disbursement of all Students Council Funds under the direction of the moderators, and
  2. maintain accurate records for all deposits and withdrawals.

COMMISSIONER OF RELIGIOUS AFFAIRS
DUTIES: He/she shall:

  1. be responsible for leading the student body in prayer at the beginning of all formal assemblies, and
  2. assist the Religious Coordinator in the preparation of all religious affairs pertaining to the students.

COMMISSIONER OF STUDENT AFFAIRS
DUTIES: He/she shall:

  1. be responsible for developing projects that respond to the expressed needs of students at the various grade levels, and
  2. maintain accurate records of all functions sponsored by the Student Council.

COMMISSIONER OF PUBLIC RELATIONS
DUTIES: He/she shall:

  1. be responsible for publicizing all special projects, activities, and events that are sponsored by the Student Council, and
  2. welcome all official guests to the school and assist them in their visit as deemed necessary by the principal or moderators.

COMMISSIONER OF SCHOOL SPIRIT
DUTIES: He/she shall:

  1. organize special rallies and other student activities that promote pride in the school while fostering a genuine spirit of the Christian community.

STUDENT CONGRESS

The purpose of the Student Congress is to present issues of concern through civil discourse and debate, as well as promote the activities and projects throughout the school. Student Congress is composed of one boy and one girl representative from each homeroom/contact period in grades one through eight. Every student democratically elected by their peers to serve as a Student Congress representative of her/his class must maintain eligibility requirements throughout the school year.
